Engineering to Support Defense R&D
Defense Information Systems Network –
Leading Edge Services (DISN-LES)
The Client’s Challenge
In light new challenges to the nation’s
defense, our client needed a single, secure
global network for the design, development,
testing, and transition of advanced,
network-centric business and tactical
applications. Multi-level security
access for NATO and Coalition forces, the
ability to activate and deactivate bandwidth
and circuits on demand, and real-time
teleconferencing and data presentation
capabilities were principal design
requirements. Existing services using
multiple, disparate networks that were not
capable of delivering seamless transmission
of voice, data, and imagery were not
suitable for meeting the customer’s
requirements.
Meeting the Challenge
HAI designed and engineered a global,
Asynchronous Transfer Mode network that
presently supports more than 50,000 users in
joint, allied, and coalition commands and
forward-deployed areas. The network is
the principal environment for testing and
integrating joint tactical applications, and
is also used for joint exercises and
coalition initiatives such as the Joint
Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (JWID),
Coalition Wide Area Network (CWAN), and
Confederated Battle Labs Network (CFBLNet).
