Central
Asia Operations and Maintenance
Operations
and Maintenance Support of Voice and Data
Networks at Manas Air Base (AB) in the
Kyrgyz Republic
The Client’s Challenge
In support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM,
the Kyrgyz Republic opened its Manas
International Airport to support aviation,
logistics, and humanitarian assistance
missions by Coalition Forces in Afghanistan.
Significant upgrades in regional
telecommunications infrastructure were
needed to support these missions, with
additional requirements for the secure
transmission of voice, data, and video over
satellite. The U.S. Department of
Defense selected an international provider
of telecommunications services to oversee
the upgrades and integrate the secure
satellite transmission systems. A
critical need in this effort was the
operation and maintenance (O&M) of these
resources and systems in an austere
operating environment.
Meeting the Challenge
In a little over a month, HAI hired,
trained, and deployed over 40 cleared
personnel to provide critical O&M services
at Manas Air Base in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Our responsibilities include managing,
maintaining, and repairing switching
subsystems and interfaces; LAN and WAN
subsystems and interfaces; wireless, Land
Mobile Radio (LMR) and microwave subsystems;
and providing command focal point and
helpdesk services to support
around-the-clock tactical and administrative
communications.
