HAI President Alonzo Short Presents “A Perspective on IPv6 and DoD Transformation” at United States IPv6 Summit 2004

Houston Associates, Inc. was a Gold Sponsor at The United States IPv6 Summit held December 7-10 at the Reston Hyatt Regency.  This premier event for the IPv6 community provided an international forum for advancing the development and implementation of next generation Internet networks, technologies, applications and policies.

HAI President Alonzo Short was among 55 speakers and panelists who shared what they think, know, aim for, and predict.  The program included the four “Fathers of the Internet” – Drs. Vinton Cerf, Lawrence Roberts, Robert Kahn and Leonard Kleinrock – offering attendees a very rare and exciting opportunity to gain a glimpse of the future Internet’s trajectory from the giants who set it in motion thirty years ago.

The U.S. Department of Defense (and other Ministries of Defense and foreign governments) has mandated a near-term transition to the New Internet (formally called the Internet Protocol version 6, or IPv6) from the existing multitude of analog and original Internet protocols (IPv4, in use since 1973) and devices. IPv6, is a transformational technology that the Pentagon sees as crucial to Net Centric Warfare and battlefield intelligence sharing.

This transition is a huge effort that presents significant business opportunities for Houston Associates.
