Steve Silverman Published Ipv6 Article
“Naming, Addressing, and IPv6”

Silverman recently published an article in
6Sense, the official newsletter of IPv6
Summit, Inc., providing an exchange of
perspectives related to Ipv6 and the future
of the Internet from people, companies, and
governments.

The IETF has always been somewhat unorthodox
in their use of the term “address.” In
IPv4, one 32-bit field (dubbed an address)
is used for both routing and identification.
In IPv6, the address has been significantly
updated (to 128 bits) but the confusing use
of the term “address” has been maintained.
This article will attempt to clarify the
issue.
