Houston
Associates, Inc. Wins 2004 Nunn-Perry Award
Mentors and Protégés: Transforming America
Together Through Innovative Technology
March 17, 2004
The Department of Defense (DoD) Small
Business Office presented Houston
Associates, Inc, (HAI) with the Nunn-Perry
Award today for its exceptional achievements
under the Mentor Protégé Program.
Serving as its mentor since 2002, Science
Applications International Corporation (SAIC)
has assisted HAI in increasing its business
opportunities through improved technical and
business operation capabilities. CEO
John R. Houston, and President Alonzo E.
Short, Lt. Gen., USA (Retired), accepted the
award.
“HAI is very proud to receive this award
with SAIC. Both companies have been
fully committed to the Mentor-Protégé
Program, and the beneficial impact to HAI
has been invaluable to our corporate growth
and infrastructure enhancements,” said
Short. “HAI looks forward to
continuing our mutually beneficial,
long-term relationship.”
During the course of the program, HAI
management and staff have benefited from
increased technical training, achievement of
ISO 9001:00 quality system registration; and
increased revenue from contracts in support
of DoD transformation initiatives and
Defense Information Systems Agency global
net-centric goals. Future goals
include achievement of CMMI certification
for software development.
The Nunn-Perry Award was established in 1995
to recognize outstanding program performance
of mentor-protégé teams formed under the
auspices of the DoD Pilot Mentor-Protégé
Program. It was named in honor of
Senator Sam Nunn for his vision and insight
into sponsoring legislation that created the
program, and in honor of former Secretary of
Defense William Perry for his commitment to
the program's implementation.
